You Can Use AHCCCS For Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment

When you or a loved one needs treatment for a substance use disorder, there’s no question that cost comes to mind. After all, treatment can be expensive. Many families cannot afford the expense out of pocket. Thankfully, more and more insurance companies are covering behavioral health services, including Medicaid.

Arizona Medicaid plans (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System or AHCCCS) provide healthcare coverage to more than 1.9 million residents. Individuals with AHCCCS can use this coverage to receive a number of benefits, including mental health and substance abuse treatment. However, there are only a few outpatient treatment centers and rehabs in Phoenix that accept this state-funded insurance.

To help you make the best treatment choices for yourself or a loved one under AHCCCS, here is some information on what Arizona Medicaid plans are, what they are cover and the quality of treatment you can get.

What is AHCCCS?

Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System plans offer health care coverage to Arizona residents who meet certain income requirements. This health care program is funded by the federal and state governments and contracted with more than 80,000 providers in the state that offer physical and behavioral health care services.

Due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Arizona was able to expand its Medicaid plan to a larger percentage of individuals, including childless adults who earn up to 100% of the federal poverty level and adults who earn up to 133% of the federal poverty level. In 2019, Arizona Medicaid plans covered nearly 2 million Arizona residents, including 48% of Arizona’s children and 54% of babies born in the state.

For a variety of reasons, many Arizona residents are covered under AHCCCS. If you are one of them and in need of substance abuse and/or mental health treatment, Continuum Recovery Center is here to help. We accept many Arizona Medicaid plans and work closely with our clients to get them the most comprehensive holistic outpatient treatment services available in Phoenix.

Can I Use AHCCCS to Pay for Holistic Outpatient Drug Treatment

Yes, you can use your AHCCCS plan to pay for treatment. However, be aware that not all holistic recovery centers accept Arizona Medicaid plans.

If you have a treatment center in mind, you can give them a call and ask if they accept AHCCCS. Providing they do, you can begin treatment right away and ensure that all treatment services will be covered. If you’re unsure of what outpatient drug rehab you want to receive treatment from, you can start with your insurance plan and discover programs in your area that accept AHCCCS.

So, why are more insurance companies covering the cost of substance abuse treatment?

Without a doubt, research shows that drug addiction treatment reduces associated health and social costs by much more than the cost of treatment itself. The estimated cost of drug abuse in the U.S. is more than $820 billion a year and growing, and treatment can help reduce these costs by decreasing crime and increasing productivity.
